GO FOR GOLD |
|
The Beijing Olympic fever is all over the world. Many are glued to the TV screen in these three weeks. Malaysia has high hopes in a few events especially badminton. All 33 athletes left for Beijing have their eyes fixed for at least a medal, if not gold. Go for Gold! That’s the aim and aspiration for all athletes from 204 nations. Their aim is not only to attain one of the most coveted prize in sports, it is also to bring honor and glory to their country that has put tremendous hope and expectation in them. What a burden to bear and yet a privilege to carry! As I look at the faces of these great aspirants, my thoughts led me of the words of the apostle Paul, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14). His goal is to reflect Christ-likeness, to fulfill the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace (Acts 20:24), and to glorify Christ both in living and in death (Phil 1:21). Wouldn’t it be great for us to aspire the same and pursue with great passion for the “gold” (crown) that will never fade away? Wouldn’t it be a great sight to see us lining up to receive the prize and to hear the Lord commending us as “good and faithful servants”? We were encouraged by the Service Leader last week of the excitement when all the faithful marched into the heavenly stadium with the hosts of heavens clapping and cheering. I would like to further encourage all of us in Christ Church Likas to Go for (eternal) Gold. |
